CFUW-Northumberland (CFUW-N) is a branch of CFUW, a non-partisan, voluntary self-funded organization with over 100 clubs located in every province across Canada. Since its founding in 1919, CFUW has been working to improve the status of women and to promote human rights, public education, social justice and peace.
CFUW-Northumberland was founded in 1991. We seek to provide lifelong learning and promote education and advocacy for gender equality and the rights of women and girls. We are particularly active in supporting women who are pursuing further education/training. We raise funds annually for scholarships for women across Northumberland County. $14,000 in scholarships and bursaries was awarded by CFUW-N in 2022-2023.

Members meet regularly to hear speakers on a wide range of subjects such as health, the arts, current events, environment, local history, women’s issues and education. Our meetings are a prime opportunity to promote fellowship, stay informed and learn about opportunities for advocacy in our communities, provincially and nationally. They usually take place on the first Monday of the month, except July and August. When there is a public holiday, our meeting usually moves to the following Monday. Our meetings may be a hybrid format (in-person with a Zoom option) or Zoom-only, particularly in the winter “poor driving” season. Special events, e.g., our holiday season luncheon, may take place on other days, at other times.
Through our many and varied interest groups, CFUW-N members have the opportunity to make lasting friendships and enjoy the benefits of learning, socializing and supporting one another.
